The band centered around the partnership of lead singer and guitarist Chris Stein . Before becoming the iconic "Blondie," Harry was a former waitress and Playboy Bunny who sang in a folk-rock band. Stein joined her previous group, The Stilettos, in 1973, but the two eventually left to form their own project. Their breakthrough came in 1978 with the album
