Leo soon realized the game was linked to his system’s temperature. As his laptop’s fans kicked in to process the high-fidelity physics of the ice, the cube began to drip. A small thermometer in the corner of the window climbed.
The program crashed, deleting itself from his hard drive. In its place was a single image file titled AUGUST_1998.jpg . It showed a deserted beach parking lot, a melting popsicle on the ground, and a shimmering heat haze over the ocean.
