The episode picks up immediately following the shocking revival of by Melisandre. Bewildered and feeling he failed his duty, Jon eventually executes the mutineers of the Night’s Watch—including Alliser Thorne and Olly—before famously declaring, "My watch is ended," and leaving Castle Black.

In the North, receives a "gift" from Smalljon Umber: Rickon Stark and Osha, handing the Boltons a massive advantage in their hold over Winterfell. Meanwhile, in one of the show's most famous sequences, Bran Stark uses his visions to witness a younger Ned Stark at the Tower of Joy .
