Episode 8 redefines the series' themes of love and duty. Kim Shin’s character development reaches a peak; he moves from a man weary of immortality to one "begging the heavens" for more time. The episode highlights a shift in Eun-tak as well, as she moves from a girl yearning for protection to a woman willing to put her partner's well-being above her own life.

The goddess Samshin reveals to Kim Shin that Eun-tak was created for a single purpose: to pull the sword and end his immortality.
