The song is based on the life of (1931–1980), a watchmaker and repairman from the Fatsa district of Ordu. His life was marked by isolation and hardship:

He was shot and killed while attempting to flee to the mountains. Lyrical Themes & Symbolism

While serving in the military in 1951, he received a letter claiming his wife had been given to someone else and his land seized. He deserted, returned home, and killed the village head in revenge.

By the late 1970s, he lived in isolation in the forest or in barns. During a 1980 military operation, soldiers mistook him for a fugitive or terrorist.

"Lean back/Rest, Halil İbrahim"—referring to his final moments leaning against the mountain rocks.
