Peter's retirement is short-lived. After an inspiring talk with Aunt May about the "hero in all of us," and seeing Doc Ock kidnap Mary Jane, Peter realizes he cannot ignore his responsibility. His powers return as his will to protect those he loves is restored.
In the final confrontation at Doc Ock’s waterfront lab, Peter reveals his identity to Otto to appeal to his humanity. Otto regains control of his mechanical arms and chooses to sacrifice himself, drowning his unstable fusion reactor in the river to save the city.
